Downtown Brussels Art
On the occasion of Downtown Brussels Art, Cloud Seven presents a series of performances exploring transformation, gesture, and living processes.
Sí Pero No by Spanish artist Guillermo Mora opens the program. After stapling sheets of coloured paper to a wall of the Cloud Bar, the artist tears them away, incorporating physical gestures into the creation of a new work.
Through this repeated gesture, somewhere between construction and spontaneity, Guillermo Mora transforms monochrome painting into sculpture, and sculpture into the lasting trace of a performance. Under his gestures, minimalist rigor begins to drift, giving rise to a work charged with movement and vitality.
This exploration continues with Anne-Marie Maes’ practice in Is That All There Is?, where she presents Sensorial Skins, an installation rooted in an ongoing biological activity. The half-filled aquarium gradually evolves, producing a new work over the course of the exhibition. For Downtown Brussels Art, one of the bacterial membranes formed during the first weeks will be harvested.
Her performance Rituals with Microbial Ancestors poetically explores the close relationships between humans and bacteria, evoking a possible future where different worlds meet — forming a universe that is at once terrestrial and aquatic, human and microbial.
