Artist talk
Mathieu and Matthieu: Better Than Gold
An artist talk exploring conceptual practices and the systems of value in today’s art world.
English
On the occasion of PhotoBrussels, Céline Mathieu (b. 1989) and Matthieu Laurette (b. 1970) present new photographic works at Cloud Seven that extend the exhibition (Not) All Is Gold. Their contributions investigate the systems of value that shape the contemporary art world, questioning the role of the collector, the dynamics of authorship and copyright, and the ways in which artistic value is produced and perceived.
A public conversation brings the two artists together to discuss their respective practices and their shared interest in the links between image, economy, and conditions of artistic creation. The talk is moderated by Dr. Christoph Rausch, professor of economics at Maastricht University, whose research examines the relationship between art, economic value, and financial value.
The event offers an accessible entry point into contemporary conceptual practices and the mechanisms through which artworks gain meaning and worth. The discussion concludes with an informal drink at the bar.
