Artist talk moderated by Dr. Christoph Rausch
Gold — Matthieu and Mathieu, a conversation on value in contemporary art
An artist talk exploring conceptual practices and the systems of value in today’s art world.
English
The event follows the opening on Saturday 24 January of an extension of (Not) All Is Gold at the bar of Cloud Seven, presenting an additional work by Céline Matthieu (b. 1989) alongside Matthieu Laurette’s (b. 1970) 50 Things Purchased with Funds Provided by Frédéric de Goldschmidt.
In this conversation, Céline Matthieu and Matthieu Laurette address how their artistic practices engage with the value systems of the contemporary art world. Their work questions notions of authorship, copyright, and the role of the collector, and examines how artistic value is produced, perceived, and negotiated.
The discussion is moderated by Dr. Christoph Rausch, professor of economics at Maastricht University, whose research focuses on the relationships between art and value. He is currently finalizing a book titled Better than Gold: Art in Storage and the Making of Financial Value.
The conversation is followed by an informal drink.
