Seven suspended paper sculptures in the shape of Möbius strips by Lieven De Boeck hang melancholically from the ceiling, gently rotating. Meanwhile, the artist, along with Emma Revest and Mae Dessauvage, reads personal letters received from friends, acquaintances, and lovers. These letters, though deeply intimate, subtly address broader social issues and question topics around gender and sexual contradictions. By listening to these texts, the work aims to establish parameters of judgment and appreciation, opening the public’s mind to various stories and projections. The artist’s use of the Möbius ring in the sculptures engages with intersectionality and gender fluidity. The twists and turns of the loops suggest the inherent flux in identities and ideologies—whether private or public, solitary or shared.

In the context of the exhibition, A Private Affair curated by Bayo Hassan Bello.
